JOB SUMMARY (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract)

 

An exciting new engineering opportunity to join the existing team of support and project engineers based in the Viacom London Media Centre. This role ensures the smooth running of both the VIMN linear broadcast distribution, and also streaming CDN distribution operations, providing round the clock support as required maintaining our services across the globe.

You will provide 2nd line support to in house 1st line support teams, and liaise with our affiliates and 3rd party’s to resolve distribution related issues to completion.

You will be helping to maintain standards and services by monitoring and managing our key distribution vendors.

You will be working on projects to install or modify distribution solutions for the delivery of Viacom content around the world.

You will be Customer service-oriented, supporting and working with non-technical colleagues on distribution solutions to realise their commercial business objectives on time and to budget.

The role is UK based with occasional overseas travel for short periods.

 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Managing a global CDN infrastructure for streaming video.
• Operating and maintaining a global broadcast video distribution infrastructure.
• Provide 2nd line support across our entire distribution infrastructure.
• Costing new infrastructure and services for the delivery of video services and content streams.
• Participating in engineering projects implementing new video distribution solutions.

 

ROLE-SPECIFIC SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

 

Ideally having worked in a similar role, you will have familiarity with key global CDN vendors in the industry, knowledge of CDN architecture, and have a strong technical knowledge of internet and networking protocols, caching and streaming technology’s.

 

Essential Core Technical Skills: Familiarity with concepts of IP networks, and of VPN, switches and routers, and CDN principles and architecture.

 

Familiarity with traditional broadcast compression systems, DVB, terrestrial circuit connectivity, DTH platforms, satellite uplink and encryption systems would be also advantageous, along with a good understanding of core linear TV channel technologies, such as SDI, AES, Dolby.

 

Familiar with the principles of Agile Project Management.

Attention to detail and methodical approach to tasks.

Experience of vendor liaison and management, with a willing to challenge and seek out answers.

Proven communications skills with internal clients and external vendors.

A good demonstrable track record illustrating a successful similar role over the past 3 years.
